‘Here’s a Thought’ is committed to protecting the health and safety of young people.

HAT safety features

Here at HAT, we take student safety very seriously. Our HAT app is designed to support and enhance the mental health and wellbeing of teenagers. Along with the care and effort we have put into our content, the highest standards of student safety, security and privacy have been integrated into our app.

STUDENT PRIVACY & ANONYMITY

Students are completely anonymous in HAT. We do not collect, store, or have access to student names, phone numbers, email addresses or any other personally identifiable
information.

DATA SECURITY

HAT encrypts data at rest and data in transit as part of our fundamental security controls.

SCHOOL DASHBOARD IDENTITY MANAGEMENT

Your HAT School Dashboard is password protected to ensure only authorised people can access your school’s information and amalgamated student data. Single sign-on (SSO) features are available.

ENTERPRISE-GRADE SECURITY

HAT is built, from the ground up, on enterprise-grade security. We have created a highly secure environment for you without sacrificing usability.

STUDENT SAFETY

Students cannot post messages or communicate with other students via the app.  HAT is a social and emotional learning tool that promotes healthy self-reflection and personal growth.

HAT is not a student electronic communication tool.

EXTENDED CARE

HAT is designed to integrate with and enhance your school’s existing student wellbeing and support services. HAT encourages students to seek additional professional support when necessary.
HAT is specifically designed to support and enhance existing best-practice school policies and procedures:

MOBILE PHONES ARE NOT REQUIRED IN CLASS

Students access HAT outside of class time.  One new HAT drops each Wednesday. Students are able to view the HAT in their own time or as a shared experience with teacher guidance.

ALIGNMENT WITH SCHOOL WELLBEING FRAMEWORKS

HAT provides tangible support to schools who have identified student wellbeing and/or student voice as a strategic priority.

COMPLEMENTS EXISTING WELLBEING GOALS AND PROGRAMS

HAT does not compete with other existing wellbeing programs or initiatives. Rather, it elevates existing programs by adding helpful and inspiring content and amplifying student voice.

ALIGNS WITH SCHOOL ORGANISATION

HAT does not require specific timetabling, scheduling, IT infrastructure or the use of any additional spaces or resources. HAT is a mental health and wellbeing tool that is available to students on their own device, in their own time.

EVIDENCE INFORMED

The HAT team comprises experts in the fields of Mental Health, School Leadership, Student Wellbeing and Positive Education.  The teenage worries that HAT addresses are informed by large-scale research and the strategies suggested are all informed by the latest findings in mental health, wellbeing, and associated human sciences.

Your School’s HAT Dashboard provides real-time feedback regarding student app engagement.
